The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially scrapped its reform. On Thursday, its Executive Committee voted to bring back the AFCON every two years.
This decision comes less than a year after the announcement of a shift to a four-year cycle, in December 2025. CAF president Patrice Motsepe explained that the choice was primarily economic.
The previous reform had sparked strong reactions. The return to the biennial format appears to ease tensions.
