In December 2025, CAF annonced that the Africa Cup of Nations would switch to a four-year cycle starting in 2028. A decision that surpried all of African football.
But during a recent conference in Praia (Cape Verde), president Patrice Motsepe hinted that the competition might finally continue to be held every two years. A U-turn that sparks debate.
Hervé Renard, iconic coach, approved this return. For him, a CAN every four years is too little. The French manager believes that African football needs more frequent events to develop.
CAF has not yet officialized its decision. But Motsepe's statements open the door to keeping the current format. African supporters and players await confirmation.
